Quarter 2 is here. And if you're an ADHDer, "just set some goals" is terrible advice.
Standard goal-setting was built for neurotypical brains. It skips the lookback. It ignores your obstacles. It sets you up to feel like you failed before you started.
This workshop does it differently.
Chris Wang, co-founder & CEO of Shimmer, led a live guided goal-setting session built specifically for how ADHD brains work. Attendees used Shimmer's Q2 workbook to walk through a full planning process together.
Here's what we covered:
- Q1 lookback: Before planning forward, we looked back. What worked? What didn't? What drained you? What surprised you? Understanding your Q1 is the foundation for a Q2 that actually goes somewhere.
- Q2 intention setting: Identify the 1–2 life areas that matter most right now and set intentions that feel real, not aspirational fluff.
- Process-oriented goal setting: Forget outcome goals. We set standards: the repeatable behaviors that move you forward without requiring perfection.
- Obstacle planning: Name what's going to get in the way before it does, and figure out your first step so you leave with actual momentum.
Insights from the Community
Over a hundred attendees joined from across the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, India, the Philippines, and beyond. The chat was alive the entire session.
Here's what stood out.
- Often times relaxation or rest feels like it can always be bumped or traded away for something more urgent. But this is a lie and a path to burnout. Rest and taking care of yourself is not optional or deferrable. Build uncommitted time into your calendar on purpose. Not as a reward. Not as leftover time. As something vital you plan for.
- If you're struggling to remember your wins, remember that you are here, reflecting, participating, and taking an active role in your own future. Showing up is a win.
- Wins don't have to be outcome-based. Going to bed at a reasonable time, moving your creative supplies somewhere you'll actually use them, or finally getting that library card are all real wins.
